weekly snapshots from our GRAND lives! March 7, 2025

Friday, March 7, 2025

We are giggling here in Minnesota!

Why, you ask???

In yesterday’s post, we began with “Bring on Spring!”

We should have remembered that uttering those words in March

usually means we’re in for another snow storm!

YEP!

Look what we woke up to Wednesday morning!

Oh, the irony of it all!

In fact, Tuesday night’s snowfall was the largest we’ve seen all winter!

We went from brown grass to a winter wonderland overnight!

We’re not complaining though!

It’s been a very mild season for us so we’re grateful for any moisture we can get!

And, this weekend’s forecast looks like our weather will boomerang once again!

Spring may be in the air sooner than we think!

We're dreaming about spring rainshowers followed by a glimpse of a rainbow!

Now that would be a FAVE!

We’re not sure how another Friday has arrived yet again,

but here we are!

Friday’s arrival also means it’s time to link up with Andrea and Erika

to share our Friday Favorites,

or, as we like to call this post, our WEEKLY SNAPSHOTS!

We both look forward to this post each week

and the opportunity it provides to reflect on what’s been brightening our days

AND

to recall a few FAVES from our mutual love, OGL, also known as

Our Grand Lives!

Keep on reading to see what we’ve been up to lately!

Laurie and her husband came to the rescue last weekend.

Then Laurie made a fun discovery that brightened both of our days!

Bath Time!

My 3 year old granddaughter, Little D, has beautiful hair!

She loves the bathtub

BUT

dreads getting her hair washed!

I was talking to my daughter on the phone last weekend and Little D was in the bathtub, protesting loudly as her dad tried to wash her hair.  I offered to help via “long distance”!

My daughter brought the phone to her and I told her I would sing a song or read a story to Little D while she got her hair washed.  She chose the story, The 3 LIttle Pigs, and my daughter reminded her she could not cry or whine or she would not hear the story.  My wonderful husband jumped in as the Big Bad Wolf, and we were only halfway there when the hair was washed with no tears!   Success - our Little was a happy and clean girl!

Grandmas can provide magic anytime!

An Epilogue to Last Week’s Tooth Tales!

Some of you may recall that in last week’s Snapshots post,

Laura told us about finding the notes her daughters wrote

to the tooth fairy many years ago.

She also shared that she'd saved the teeth the tooth fairy had collected!

At the time, Laura wondered if any one else did such a thing.

Thankfully, she heard from a few readers that she wasn’t alone.

Of course others were a bit mortified, as were Laura’s owndaughters!

Well… fast forward to this past Wednesday!

Guess what I (Laurie) found while cleaning out a few drawers?

Yep!  MY daughter’s note to the tooth fairy

AND

a few teeth as well!

I sent this text off to Laura once I’d made the discovery!

I guess we are kindred spirits in even more ways than we realized!

Laura has been home since Tuesday night

and is already missing her Littles while reminiscing about our visit!

She’s also sharing a simple snack that’s new to her but oh so delicious…

and it’s Little approved!

A GRAND Visit!

Last Friday, Daughter A (our youngest) and I made the five hour drive to Madison.

(My hubby, meanwhile, was holding down the fort at home.)

Our oldest and her family were on a ski trip with the in-laws

so the plan was for us to relieve another caregiver

and take care of the grandpup until their return the following day!

Isn't she a cut cuddle buddy?

The travelers returned the next afternoon

with wonderful stories from their adventure in Utah!

And while I love snuggling with a sweet pup

there’s nothing more precious than smiles and sloppy kisses from these Littles!

Daughter A and I were able to stay until Tuesday morning

and I just love times like this…

Low-key with quality moments spent taking in their world!

Before we left, we even got to see Little L in action….

 at her weekly swimming lesson!

These visits always brighten my day!

Until next time my sweet ones!

A Yummy & Healthy Snack!

It’s so fun to be at this stage of life

when your own children teach you a new thing or two... or even twelve!

Recently, Daughter A shared that she adds cottage cheese to a mashed up avocado

and enjoys this protein packed mixture with some homemade air fried tortilla chips.

I, too, have been adding cottage cheese to several dishes like scrambled eggs and salad

but I hadn’t heard of this combination!

We just added a bit of salt and pepper and a sprinkle of garlic and that was it!

It was delicious and I’ve been eating it regularly ever since!

Give it a try!

Little L adds her glowing endorsement, as well!

Yesterday’s post at Our Grand Lives

was all about gold coins and the fun you and your Littles can have with them!

We shared a few PAST FAVES and NEW activities, too,

just in time for a wee bit of St. Patrick’s Day fun!

Coins Galore!

Today, in addition to the activities we shared yesterday,

we've got two more ideas…

Both are simple, easy to set up and guaranteed fun!!

Search for Coins!

This was an activity Laurie’s own kids had fun with when they were young!

After our Littles went to sleep on March 16th, my husband and I would sneak into their rooms and scatter handfuls of coins all over the floor and into the hallway.  The pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters were the coins that had been collected in our family change jar throughout the past year.  Our Daughter A and Son D were at the right age where they understood money and were fascinated with it.  They would sort these "pots of gold" by types of coins, they'd split the coins between the two of them and then they'd tuck their coins away in their piggy banks.

As Grands, this activity can be done during a playdate or a sleepover!

It’s a perfect activity for your school-age Littles!

Colorful Coins!

Laura and Little L had just as much fun making these game pieces as they did playing the actual game!

In my traveling GRAND Bag, I had packed a handful of gold coins and color stickers (you’ll need 2 stickers of each color to create matching coins). What 3 year old doesn't love stickers?

Once we’d put a sticker on each coin

we were all set and ready to play a few games with them!

Little L spent time matching the coins and then we turned them over

and did our best to find pairs... Little L has a great memory!

Instagram Faves!

We’ve always got new content popping up on our social media sites!

We invite you to find us and follow us on Instagram and/or Facebook!

You'll find lots of great ideas there!

Here’s a few recent posts for you to check out!

Sledding with Friends!

Whether you have snow or not, you can have your Littles practice sledding indoors with their toy animals! Use muffin tins to freeze plastic animals or people in water. Pop them out and use your toddler slide (or build a slide with a piece of cardboard covered with foil slanted on a chair). Young Littles will love to push their friends down the slide. Older Littles will want to race.

Three year old Little D's favorite part? Licking the ice!!!

Suncatchers to Brighten Your Day!

Laurie made these with her Sunday School class to remind everyone that Jesus is the Light of the world!  These suncatchers would brighten anyone’s day!  For older Littles use transparent pony beads and yarn. Younger Littles will find it easier to thread beads on a pipe cleaner. You can also crumple up small bits of cling wrap or foil which will also reflect the light. Hang them in a window or other area that catches lots of light.

We hope they brighten your day!

We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Your comments always brighten our days!

Our Final Thought for the Week!

As St. Patrick’s Day nears,

we often think about that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow

the one that leprechaun is always in search of!

Many people think of the pot of gold

as something that seems promising but is perhaps impossible to achieve

and some might even rely on luck

finding it difficult to achieve in reality all they dream of.

We prefer this definition:

the realization of one’s hopes and dreams,

fulfillment or happiness.

Our Weekly Snapshots while not always super exciting

capture such moments!

Living our lives, day by day, with those we love

is a blessing beyond measure, brightening our moments along the way!

That is truly our GRAND pot of gold!

Oh, and this, too!

Life As Kim.

Oh no! That snow, just when you think the nice weather has arrived mother nature has other ideas.

Aww! Little D's hair is beautiful, I can understand why hair washing could be challenging.

How lovely to be looking after the Grandpup and spend time with the Grandkids.
